What they are<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>

Brake pads<\/strong> are essential components of drum braking systems. The brake pads have a semicircular shape and are coated with friction material.<\/p>\n

When the brake is applied, the brake shoes are pushed against the inner surface of the rotating drum, generating friction and progressively slowing the vehicle until it stops.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Types of brake masses<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

The brake masses are mainly distinguished into two configurations:<\/p>\n

Simplex System
\n<\/strong>It is composed of:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • a primary brake shoe<\/strong> (more effective when braking),<\/li>\n
  • a secondary brake shoe<\/strong>,
    \nactuated by a single cam or a single hydraulic cylinder.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    In this system, only one shoe fully exploits the self-braking effect generated by the rotation of the drum.<\/p>\n

    \u00a0<\/strong>Duplex System
    \n<\/strong>The Duplex system is characterized by:<\/p>\n

    • two primary brake shoes<\/strong>,<\/li>\n
    • actuated by two hydraulic cylinders or separate cams.<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The shoes are positioned so that they both work as primary with respect to the direction of rotation of the drum, acting simultaneously and ensuring greater braking power<\/strong> than the Simplex system.<\/p>\n

      Often these masses are specific to the right and left side.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

      How Duplex brake masses<\/span> work<\/p>\n<\/div>

      In the Duplex system, both shoes are pushed against the rotating drum when the brake pedal is pressed. Unlike the Simplex system\u2014where one shoe is primary and the other secondary\u2014in the Duplex both shoes exploit the self-braking effect. This allows for:<\/p>\n

      • greater efficiency when braking in forward gear.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
